Crochet - Charlene's Twisted Fringe
CharmKnits ©

Also check another version of the twisted fringe done by Gladys Goodey http://goodeys.tripod.com/goodeysknittingroom/id38.html
Natalie Langkilde also has done several fringes - take a look at
http://webpages.charter.net/langkilde/Fringes.html

This is a great fringe - no cut ends - washes well - no tangles.

Do 1 row single crochet (on cast off/cast on edge or on a chain if not attaching to piece).

Do 2 rows single crochet, picking up 2 bars (or 1 bar, front or back, as preferred - choice gives a little different effect).
Next row: Fringe - Slip st. in first stitch through one(front or back) or two bars as preferred,(again, choice gives a little different effect) and * pull loop of slip stitch to length required for fringe (4 or 5 inches)(experiment to determine desired length). Twist loop ~ ten - fifteen turns, slip st in same stitch. Slip stitch in next stitch through one or two bars as preferred * Repeat * * to end of edge. Work fringe on both ends of afghan, or all four sides, as desired.

The fringe sample pictured above was worked on a chain, picking up 2 bars on the 2 rows of single crochet. The fringes were worked on the back bar or loop of the stitch, the pulled loops were 5 inches long and twisted 12 times. The yarn is 4 ply - worsted weight and I used size H (USA) crochet hook. I lay a piece of paper in my lap while I'm doing this to use as a guide for the loop length. This is a great project to do while watching TV (I can't just sit there!).

Ideas: Fringe on a lampshade using crochet cotton or rayon.--- decoration on a jacket with gold thread! Let your imagination run wild................
